Say Goodbye To Fast Food And Child Obesity

What is the world turning into? These days it is so common to see fat children. It is a sad sight to see a child suffering from obesity. You would think that a child would have the lowest risk of developing obesity due to the fact that children are naturally fit and like to play all day.

A lot of the child obesity problem stems from our diets these days. With fast food outlets on almost every corner its no wonder our kids are fat. Fast food and child obesity is a world wide problem.

Over the past three decades child obesity rate has more than doubled for preschool children aged 2-5 years and adolesecents aged 12-19 years, and it has more than tripled for children aged 6-12 years. In the US alone 9 million children are considered obese.

The rise in fast food and child obesity is due to complex interactions across social and enviromental issues.

Fast food is a major cause of child obesity. The relationship between fast food and child obesity is very close indeed. Every day in the US, children aged 4-19 years old eat fast food. This packs on 6 extra pounds per child per year. This increases the risk of obesity.

The numbers are alarming but not surprising since the US spends billions each year on fast food advertising geared at children. The findings suggest that fast food consumption has increased five fold amongst children since 1970.

The most significant levels of fast-food consumption were found in kids with higher household income levels, older children, boys, blacks and children living in the South.

The lowest levels were found in kids living in the west, hispanics, rural areas and those aged 4-8 years old.

Fast food lovers consumed more starch, sugar, higher carbohydrate and fewer fruits and vegetables than kids who didn’t eat fast food.

The nation’s obesity epidemic has focused attention on Macdonald food chain blaming them on making kids fat. As a result of this many chains have resulted in offering healthier fare.

So there has to be a way to say goodbye to fast food and child obesity.

Child obesity from fast food has evidence to say that children who eat such food two or three times a week consume higher calorie intakes, more saturated fat, excess sugar consumption and more sweets.

The solution to fast food and child obesity is simple. Give your child fast food only as a treat on a day out in town. But most times feed your kid at home with servings of vegetables, fruits, whole grains, fibre and milk.

This way we can definately say goodbye to fast food and child obesity.
